Libros de las Malas CompañíasCREATIVE PROCESS
Los cuentos del conejo
This project for the Serie Negra collection published by Libros de las Malas Compañías, carried out in 2017 together with the writer and folklorist Ana Cristina Herreros and the photographer Kike Carbajal, took place in Mozambique and involved people with albinism who face discrimination and isolation in various African countries. In response to this situation, we felt the need to listen to them and give them a voice.
During the process, we collected their stories and imagined, together with them, the characters of their tales—stories that, in many cases, could be told by any child in Mozambique.
The result is a book composed of 29 stories narrated by people with albinism and illustrated in collaboration with children from Mozambique. To achieve this, we created cardboard characters painted white as the protagonists of the stories, set against backgrounds of African fabrics. This work aims to give visibility to the albino community, challenge the stigmas surrounding them, and show that they are not legends, but people with stories that deserve to be heard.
